What Did We Learn This Month?
Fitness magazine: January 2012
Fitness Cover Star for January:
Brooke Burke of Dancing With the Stars fame is the cover star for the special “Super Shape-Up-in2012 Issue of Fitness. Brooke is the mother of four kids, co-hosts the aforementioned Dancing and is also the CEO of ModernMom.com—whew! With all of her responsibilities, Brooke has to make the most of her free time for working out.
Brooke (along with her trainer Gregory Joujon-Roche) has two workout DVDs coming out soon—Tone & Tighten and Strengthen & Condition and here we get a “sneak peak” of some of her favorite moves.
So what else is in the January Fitness?
"Loosen Up!"
If you are like me, one of your New Year’s resolutions is to make time to stretch your overworked body. Well lucky we, DanceWorks instructor of YogaWorks Studio in New York City, Keisa Parrish, created this “head-to-toe relaxer” to get us started on the right path. Yay us!
"I Trimmed the Fat"
For some completely unexplainable reason I am not a watcher of The Food Network. (What gives BFC?) Anyhoo-star chef Amanda Freitag (Chopped) asked the editors of Fitness to help her get healthy and shed a few extra pounds. Check how they did here!
“Rev It”
Really interesting article on the science of metabolism and how you can work on making yours work more efficiently.
“Fat-Fighting Foods”
The editors of Fitness created a whole slew of recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner that you can mix and match for a total of 1,500 calories per day. Some of them look especially yummy!
"Your Best Body Ever"
Here we get a complete program from Fitness to help get the New Year off to a healthy start including strength training, cardio and a fit meal plan. You can win prizes as well! Register at fitnessmagazine.com/bestbody to find out how.
And now the rest of the best of this issue of Fitness:
- “Be a Goal Getter” A whole page of goodies that will help you save money, stop being tardy, drink more water and more.
- "Soothe Moves" Fitness beauty editors picked out the “do-anywhere beauty rituals” to soothe your skin.
- "Improve Your Sweatitude" Writer Liz Neporent offers tips to fight the workout rut you may be in and kick your butt into a higher gear.
- "Cold-Proof Your Winter” How to avoid sniffles, sore throats, and usual flu-like yuckiness that can happen this time of year.
- "Recipes for Success” Delightful looking recipes filled with good-for-you ingredients to keep you healthy this winter. I am definitely going to try the ‘Sweet Potato and Pork Chili” recipe soon.
