What Did We Learn This Month?
Health magazine: January/February 2012
What’s happening in the January/February issue of Health?
Health Cover Star for January/February:
Eva Longoria who has starred for eight seasons on Desperate Housewives (really!) and before making it big in Hollywood was a fitness instructor and personal trainer—busy gal!
When Eva was younger and teaching aerobics for a living she became exercise obsessed, often working out for hours each day to try and get her body to its fittest level. These days she has a much more sensible approach focusing on feeling good rather than being Hollywood's version of scary skinny.
(She even admits to hating cardio and trying to get away with as little of it as possible each week which makes me really like her!)
Eva is also a restaurateur (Beso in Las Vegas & Los Angeles,) author of the best-selling Eva’s Kitchen cookbook and Executive Producer of the documentary The Harvest which is about child migrant farm laborers. Who knew?
In the interview you find out some of “Eva’s Favorites” including:
- Favorite aisle in the grocery store (Produce)
- Movie she has watched the most times (Pretty Woman, Steel Magnolias & Working Girl)
- Favorite sandwich (Bologna and cheese!)
Eva was photographed by Art Streiber at Beso which you can see here:
So what else is inside the January/February Health?
"Want to Get Slim? Use Your Phone!”
Did you know one in three of us use social media like Facebook & Twitter to lose weight? And, did you know it seems to be working to help people reach their health & fitness goals? Well, now you do!
“Winter-Proof That Workout”
Health has a nice page of cover-ups here that give me the “I wants.”
“Get Toned in 10”
YogaWorks NYC instructor Anna Hughes Dioguardi gives Health this workout based her new Cardio Flow class.
"That’s the Spirit"
Vodka has more uses than just a nice way to dress up cranberry juice. Why, you can even sub it as a skin toner (among other helpful things.) Really—huzzah!
"Build Your Best Body"
Amy Dixon (a California-based trainer and exercise physiologist) gives us this fun strength routine to work your body in new ways and give up some of those old standbys including a new way to row & lunge. See for yourself here!
And now the rest of the best of this issue of Health:
- "The Burning Question: Are Fertility Drugs Safe?” There is some good news about IVF and the drugs needed to help a pregnancy along.
- "The Secret to Great Hair? The Right Conditioner" I am very vain about my tresses. Especially in dry, wintry, “flyaway hair” weather.
- "Soften Up All Over" Did I mention how dry my hair gets in the winter? Same goes for my face & body. Like sandpaper people!
- "Make Over Your Metabolism” As I get older, my metabolism seems to get slower and slower. Good advice here on how to get that oven burning again.
- “The Experts’ Guide to Feeling Great This Year” Health asked a number of “top docs” their best advice to help readers feel happier and healthier in 2012.
- “Heart-Healthy for Life” Great advice on how to make your ticker stronger including “7 heart-smart foods.”
- “The Great Sex Workout” Don’t call the editors of Health a bunch of prudes! (Page 95)
- “The Secrets of the World’s Healthiest Women” How the lasses of the healthiest countries in the world stay that way. (Big spoiler alert—they all eat fish!)
- “Best in Chips” This is chili season and I love to eat mine with chips. Here we get the healthiest and best-tasting ones on the market.
