Questions from Brooklyn Fit Chick:
• What is the name of your Blog?
Running, Loving, Living
• How would you describe it to someone who has not read it before?
I started Running, Loving, Living in January 2011 as a way to hold myself accountable while I trained for my second 1/2 marathon with a goal of running it in under 2 hours. I achieved this goal at the Long Island 1/2 Marathon on May 1, 2011 with a time of 1:54:36. This journey reignited my passion for not only running but also for writing.
Running, Loving, Living continues to chronicle my running journey with posts about training, health and fitness, reviews and giveaways and my life. I am just a regular person trying to find balance to leading the healthiest life I can and with my blog I hope to motivate and inspire others to do the same.
• How did you get interested in writing?
When I was young I had always loved writing and always dreamed of being a novelist. I actually became a personal trainer at 19 and then a registered nurse at 28 but fell back in love with writing when I created my blog last year.
• What is your favorite workout?
Running of course!!!
• Who/whom are your “fitness heroes?”
Grete Waitz is my fitness hero and she is the reason I began running. Grete Waitz had never run a marathon until she won the NYC in October 1978, she not only won but set a world record. She went on to win the NYC 8 more times in her career, unfortunately Grete passed away last year. She will always be my inspiration for running. (You can learn more about Grete here: https://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/20/sports/othersports/20waitz.html?_r=1)
• The biggest physical challenge you have overcome?
The biggest physical challenge I have had to overcome is controlling my asthma. I was not active until after I had my first daughter at 19 mostly because my asthma was so bad I could barely walk let alone run and workout. After I had my daughter I found a passion for health and fitness and I learned how to be able to workout while keeping my asthma under control. I am happy to say my asthma has been under control for about 10 years now. My biggest physical issue I have now is dealing with shin splints, this is still a work in progress.
• Besides your Blog—what are you favorite reads?
I follow a great deal of health and fitness blogs including yours!!! I am also a magazine addict with Oxygen being my favorite. I love to read books with my favorite authors being Dean Koontz and Stephen King.
• What is favorite TV guilty pleasure?
So sad to say that my favorite TV guilty pleasure is watching reruns of the original 90210. I can pretty much recite every episode….my husband always makes fun of me.
• How do you motivate yourself when your mind & body are saying “Ugh, not today?”
I get on Twitter and look for inspiration from my tweeps, they can be very motivating. I also tell myself I can use do a short workout and 95% of the time once I begin it turns into a regular workout!!! The other 5% of the time my body is just not feeling it and I will stop. You have to push yourself to a point but you also have to listen to your body to avoid illness and injury.
• Favorite place in the world to chill out.
On the balcony of a cruise ship, pure beauty and peace!!
• Who/what makes you laugh when you need a mood lift?
My 3 year old daughter Abby, she can always make me laugh and smile!!!
