What Did We Learn This Month?
Shape: December 2012
Shape Cover Star for December:
Cindy Crawford is on the December cover and she looks completely amaze-balls at the age of 46! (Respect people!) My favorite supermodel from the 90s (and the host of my favorite show of the decade-- MTV’s House of Style) has taken exceptional care of herself since her 20s by sticking to a sensible diet and workout regime plus using her own line of skin care products Meaningful Beauty.
Inside the magazine she offers her five “life lessons” plus we get a glimpse at her personal hotel workout she takes on the road with her. Check it out here:
So what else is inside the December Shape?
“The Best Workout for Your Body”
The title says it all. Whether you have a “boyish frame” are pear or apple-shaped bod—Shape has the best moves to get you in top form. Jessica Smith, a Miami-based trainer and author of The Thin in 10 Weight-Loss Plan, designed each one.
Shape asked three women who belong to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to offer their favorite core moves. Really enjoyed this story and I plan to follow their advice right away.
Have you tried TRX yet? It’s pretty intense but a superb workout you can do in record time. Here we get advice on how to prepare for your first lesson Dan McDonough of TRX.
“For a Hot Body—Push Here”
I loved this story! Because of Hurricane Sandy—my main gym was out of commission for a month and I had to work out with DVDs at home. Shape’s editors picked their favorite workout DVDs and the moves that inspire them in this article.
“Shape’s 2012 Gift Guide”
Are you looking for gift ideas for the fit person in your life (or a fit blogger who recaps magazines?) Check out some of the ideas featured here.
The star of ABC-TV’s Cougar Town talks about how she keeps healthy (she is a steak and kale kind of gal) and her newfound love of directing. To me she will always be Alex’s girlfriend from Family Ties!
And now the rest of the best of this issue of Shape:
- "The Eyes Have It…” Shape’s beauty editors find the best lotions and potions to make your peepers look amazing.
- “Socks That Rock” Okay, I am really late on the bandwagon here but why is everyone going colorful sock crazy all of a sudden? (Not that I am complaining.)
- “Stride Ride” If you are looking for an intense elliptical workout that takes only 30-minutes to do—check out this one provided by trainer Amie Hoff (page 64.)
- “Give Your Hotel Room a Check-Up” Are you as skeeved out about germs in hotel rooms as I am? (Ewwwww-just the thought of them makes me cringe.) This article will tell you what to do to make the place worthy of your presence plus other tips to make hotel life feel more like home.
