Hey there everyone!
Today I have a fabulous book giveaway from SELF Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danziger—THE DROP10 DIET: Add to Your Plate to Lose the Weight (Ballantine Books; $26.00.) Not to brag but I was able to attend the fancy schmancy party for this book and I can tell you with all certainty that Lucy looks totally amazing in person and she really lives the lifestyle promoted with THE DROP10 DIET plan.
This particular giveaway is special because it not only includes Lucy’s book but also candy from Dylan’s Candy Bar (www.dylanscandybar.com!) Keep reading to find out more details…

Lucy was generous enough to take time out of her Editor-In-Chief duties to answer a few of my questions:
- · How did you learn about the 30 “superfoods?”
At SELF we cover nutrition news, along with diet behavior, recipes and workouts and these superfoods have been proven, through scientific research and studies, to rev up the body’s natural fat-burning abilities. By helping your body shed fat and speed your metabolism, just choosing the right food choices makes losing weight as easy as filling your plate— and when you start eating this way, your energy soars, you feel better and you actually want to work out!
· How often do you work out per week?
I workout daily before work, since it helps me focus and be emotionally and physically on my game. I enjoy training for a specific goal, like a race or to get faster and fitter, not necessarily for weight reasons, though I do find that working out is a great way to maintain a healthy weight and a toned body. But for me, it’s as much a mental as a physical benefit! It clears my head and helps me think better and problem solve. So when I get off my bike or out of the pool, I’m ready for the day ahead.
· Have you always been athletic?
Yes, I was a tomboy and a big athlete in high school and loved to row and ski and sail and run. I was always terrible at ball sports and later I learned that just because I had bad hand eye coordination (tennis was a practice in humiliation) didn’t mean I wasn’t athletic. Once I learned that I had strength, endurance and a dare-devil approach on the ski slopes, I found that I could be athletic outside the usual team sports definition that most kids do in school.
· What is involved in your training for triathlons?
I love to be outside, doing a sport or activity that allows me to enjoy that natural scenery and beauty of the Park or the running and biking trails in and around NYC. So for me, running, biking and swimming are ways to be fit and get this “natural” fix every day. Of course in the brutally cold winter days, I have to train indoors but that makes it all the sweeter to get outside in the spring summer and fall. So basically you bike, run or swim each day and cross train so you can avoid injury and be fit without getting bored.
· What is your favorite recipe from the book?
The Mediterranean Baked Salmon. I love fish!
Rub 4 ounces wild salmon with 1 teaspoon olive oil. In a baking dish coated with 1 teaspoon olive oil cooking spray, place salmon, 1 sliced red bell pepper, 1/2 sliced fennel bulb, and 10 small black pitted olives. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano and season with freshly ground black pepper. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes; stir the veggies; bake until cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes more. Drizzle with lemon juice. Serve with 1/2 cup cooked quinoa.
· What lesson do you hope readers will take away from The DROP10 Diet?
It’s possible to lose weight and keep it off without depriving yourself. I love chocolate and eat it every day (dark of course—it’s a super food!) and I have my “happy calories” as wine or chips and Mexican food at least once a week. On the Drop 10 Diet, nothing is off limits and you can lose weight, have fun and feel full and satisfied. I did it, five years ago, and kept it off. So I wanted to share it with the rest of the world. It’s easy, if you know what to eat and you choose to eat mostly healthy foods. Try it, tweet your progress and let your friends know that Super Foods are the way to go, and to Drop 10!
From the publishers of THE DROP10 DIET:
THE DROP 10 DIET: Harness the Fat-Melting Power of Superfoods (Ballantine Books Hardcover, on sale March 27, 2012) zigs where other diet books zag, offering a welcome change from the what-not-to-eat advice of most other diet programs. Lucy Danziger has been the editor-in-chief of SELF magazine for over 10 years. With its editorial mission of teaching women they can improve their diet without sacrificing favorite foods, SELF enhances the lives of 12 million readers every month in both the print and online worlds. Danziger and the editors from SELF have identified 30 everyday foods that contain specific ingredients scientifically proven to turn on your body’s fat-burning powers, rev up metabolism, tame your appetite and help curb overeating. What makes this diet book different from all others is it tells you what you can eat, not what you can’t -– and the best part? You choose how you lose.
Be inspired by real women who lost weight with THE DROP 10 DIET, including Danziger who has maintained her own 20 pound weight loss for 5 years. Within the book you’ll find:
- Details on the 30 superfoods and the science behind their natural slimming properties
- How to incorporate the superfoods into your daily eating habits
- Recipes and menus for simple, fat-fighting, superfood loaded meals and snacks for the whole family
- Workouts to zap fat even faster
- 10 ways to slim your restaurant meals
- Online tools and support from SELF editors and experts for total success
- Real women who’ve used the superfoods way of eating to lose weight
From avocados to almonds, edamame to eggs, peanuts to parmesan cheese, THE DROP 10 DIET serves up what readers want most: a plan for eating more delicious and seemingly off-limits ingredients to trim down quickly and safely. Think chocolate is bad for you? Wrong! By just swapping in superfoods (including chocolate) for the nutritionally bankrupt alternatives in your diet, weight loss has never been this easy.
