BROOKLYN FIT CHICK'S FAVORITE PLAYLIST
(This Week...)
"Right as Rain" (45-minute Ride)
I came up with this ride before the crap-tastic weather hit the east coast this week. (Oy, enough with the rain and fog puh-leeeze!)
But let’s not focus on the rain outside. None of us can control that. Rather—let’s focus on the joys of working out indoors.
For example:
- Working out indoors is usually climate controlled and therefore more comfortable.
- Inside you don’t have to deal with cars or HUGE strollers blocking your way. (Damn you Park Slope stroller mafia!)
- Inside you can listen to music full blast and be safe.
There—don’t you feel better already? No, oh hell. I tried.
Anyhoo, my list this week begins with my new favorite artist (and imaginary, celebrity rock star best friend) Adele with a little ditty from her first album. I also had a yen for some new Beastie Boys as well and off I went to create this wild and wacky ride. Please to enjoy…
- Right as Rain: Adele
It’s got a fun, cocktail-y kind of beat that makes you want to tap your toes and be witty at a dinner party.
- Heaven Knows: Donna Summer
The kind of song that makes me wish Donna would record some new music. If Cher can have a comeback—why not Donna Summer people?
- Ragdoll: Aerosmith
I have a totally unreasonable hatred of American Idol but adore the eccentric Stephen Tyler who somehow made them seem cool again. Take a moment here to enjoy this fun little gem from the 90s and if you get the chance—read Tyler’s autobiography Does the Noise in my Head Bother You? C’est magnifique!
- I Love Music: The O’Jays
Lately I have been digging longer, rolling climbs in my classes (one minute flat, one minute on an incline) and this old soul classic is simply purr-fect for the job.
- Hella Good: No Doubt
Just try to listen to this song without shaking your booty—it’s impossible!
- What a Wonderful World: Joey Ramone
Who knew old Joey was such a soft-hearted guy? R.I.P. oh mighty one...
- The Way You Make Me Feel: Michael Jackson
I think I owned about ten different versions of the object of M.J.’s desires’ short black dress. Word.
- Tell Me Baby: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Yes, most of their music sounds the same. But who cares, really?
- Make Some Noise: Beastie Boys
Holler! Brooklyn’s finest export is back again and they are kickin’ it people!
Warning, they use the “M.F.” word if you have sensitive folks in your class. I don’t which is why I love them so.
- Rock This Town: Stray Cats
Reminds me of when I used to think Slim Jim Phantom was cool. (Oh so long ago.)
- In Da Club: 50 Cent
White people cannot bob their heads enough to this song. In a good way!
- Take a Picture: Filter
I defend this as a perfectly good pop/rock song. Plus I used to have a crush on the singer Richard Patrick (whose brother is actor Robert Patrick {Terminator Two} by the way.)
- Hypnotized: Fleetwood Mac
If you are not familiar with their music before Lindsey and Stevie showed up—check out this smooth-as-silk number.
That’s all I have today folks. Let me know about some of your favorite songs. I am always looking for good tunes.
Until next time…
