Questions from Brooklyn Fit Chick:
What is the name of your Blog & program?
fitmamatraining.com Fit Mama Booty Camp, Personal training, online training, and nutrition coaching.
· How would you describe it to someone who has not read your Blog before?
I look at fitness from the perspective of someone who has been overweight (and not into fitness) my whole life. I love lifting and have enthusiasm for any physical activity that makes me feel strong and "bad ass" but I am not extreme in my lifestyle. I fully respect people who watch everything they put in their mouths and live for better health and physiques... but for me a full life includes indulgences as well. I don't eat only for fuel and I don't workout to make up for my food.
I hope to help people realize they don't have to be perfect to obtain a better body and a healthier outlook, and that all of that begins within- realizing you are deserving of those things.
· How did you get interested in writing?
I used to write bad poetry to get over dumb relationships, which turned into doing slam poetry in college, which turned into blogging as a grown up.
· What is your favorite workout?
Lifting weights, particularly heavy leg and glute day! It took me a long time to get here, but now few things make me as happy as lunges. And my husband loves the new "tuck" in my booty. They say when it comes to fitness the booty tells the story, and I love working on that story.
· Who/whom are your “fitness heroes?”
I love Alicia Marie and Jamie Eason. I like chicks with big ass muscles. I think that's sexy.
· The biggest physical challenge you have overcome?
Being overweight. This was really more of a mental overhaul than a physical one... it came with all these preconceived notions that I would never be deserving of good things, that I would never have the body I wanted and mostly that I had no control over my body. Once I busted through these ideas, got okay with me and decided to get healthy instead of "fix myself" the weight loss part was easy.
· Besides your Blog—what are you favorite reads?
Oxygen magazine for fitness stuff. My favorite bloggers are FitVillains (http://fitvillains.tumblr.com/,) A Black Girl's Guide to Weight Loss (http://blackgirlsguidetoweightloss.com/) and The Gracious Pantry (http://www.thegraciouspantry.com/.) Favorite read in general is the book Said the Shotgun to the Head by Saul Williams. Something in it always speaks to me in a different way and I never put it down without feeling the need to write.
· What is favorite TV guilty pleasure?
I can't help it but I kind of love Teen Mom. Any reality show really. And if it's just me, the evening and Netflix instant? My So Called Life. Best cancelled show ever. (Editor’s note: I agree!)
· If you could trade places with a specific person from any time in history (past or present) for one day—who would it be and why?
This may sound stupid or cocky but I really love being me, where I'm at, right now. I'm busy juggling staying at home with my 3 year old, working a part time job and running my business... but I'm so happy and proud of what I've created.
· How do you motivate yourself when your mind & body are saying “Ugh, not today?”
Some days I just take the day off. Most days I tell myself I just have to do 15 minutes and I always end up doing more. Music is also a big motivator. Once I get to the gym and put in my ear buds, it's game on.
· Favorite place in the world to chill out.
Anywhere I can snuggle with my little family.
· Who/what makes you laugh when you need a mood lift?
I have hilarious friends. If I need a boost all I need to do is holla at one of my girls. They are usually re-telling a story of some dumb shit I did once but it always makes me happy.
Thanks Erin!
