What Do We Learn This Month in Fitness?
Ali Sweeney
Fitness is back to interviewing celebrities and who better than Alison Sweeney to grace the cover? Alison is a busy actress (Days of Our Lives,) host (The Biggest Loser) and mom yet still finds the time to get a in a few good workouts every week to keep her energy (and spirits) high.
Ali was kind enough to serve as a model for the following core moves (which I plan to use in my own classes) developed by her trainer Steve Lee:
The Tighten Up Series
AFTER the holidays (when you are really ready to get back on the fit bandwagon) you may want to try out the Fitness “Better Body Plan” that features this workout created by Fitness contributor Monica Vazquez of the New York Sports Clubs. (The wood-chop crunch looks awesome!)
“Jump to It!”
Fitness had jump rope expert Tim Haft of Punk Rope boot camp in New York City develop a calorie-scorching routine here. (Confession time—I absolutely HATE jumping rope. Any advice to make it more fun for a fit chick like me?)
“Fight the Flab”
Even more workouts—yay! This doozy comes from Mike Fitch of the new “Animal Flow” class at Equinox and features moves like the “Beast Reach” and the “Ape Squat.’ Really!
"Listen to Your Gutt”
As someone who changed her diet quite a bit in the last year—I can tell you about dealing with “tummy toil.” Fitness has a smart article here about all kinds of stomach issues and what you can do about them.
"Chill Out”
Okay, so I don’t actually need new boots but daaaaaaaaamn some of these are cute! (Especially the Merrell Winterbelle boots featured here amIrightfolks?!)
And now the rest of this issue of Fitness:
- “Smooth Moves” I love almost everything about winter weather except for the way it makes my skin feel (dry & itchy.) So this article gave great advice on how to better care for my epidermal layer.
- "Hair That Packs a Punch” I am one of those vain a**holes that spends way too much time on my hair so I loved this section! Really good advice on how to keep your hair in shape (no matter its type or texture) while you work out.
- "OM Schooled" I am going to recommend this essay to a few yoga friends from writer Sarah Hepola who learned how to care for herself better after a yoga injury.
- "Chew on This” LOVED this feature. Fitness looked up the different food myths out there and give us the real facts. (Hey, any publication that tells me it is okay to drink red wine is tops in my book!)
Overall Grade:
A- A great issue to get you started on your New Year’s healthy kick.
